Culture Day

Celebrates the ideals of freedom, peace, and culture, coinciding with the promulgation of Japan's postwar Constitution

About this Holiday

Culture Day (Bunka no Hi), observed on November 3, celebrates the ideals of freedom, peace, and the promotion of culture. The date coincides with the promulgation of Japan's postwar Constitution on November 3, 1946, and with the birthday of Emperor Meiji. The Japan Art Academy holds award ceremonies, major museums and galleries offer special exhibitions, and schools across the country host vibrant culture festivals (bunkasai).
