Emperor's Birthday (Tennō Tanjōbi) is a national holiday celebrating the birthday of the reigning Emperor of Japan. The current Emperor, His Majesty Emperor Naruhito, ascended the Chrysanthemum Throne on May 1, 2019, upon his father Emperor Akihito's abdication. Emperor Naruhito was born on February 23, 1960, and the date is observed each year with ceremonies and a public audience at the Imperial Palace.
