Hangeul Proclamation Day celebrates the creation of the Korean alphabet by King Sejong the Great of the Joseon Dynasty. Devised in 1443 and publicly announced in 1446, Hangeul was scientifically designed to make literacy accessible to all Koreans. The original document explaining its principles, the Hunminjeongeum, is inscribed on the UNESCO Memory of the World Register, recognized as a landmark of human cultural heritage.
