About this Holiday
Holi, the Festival of Colors, marks the arrival of spring and celebrates the triumph of good over evil through the legend of Prahlada and Holika. On the eve of Holi, bonfires (Holika Dahan) are lit to symbolically burn away evil. The main day is celebrated by throwing colorful powder and water at each other, visiting friends and family, and enjoying festive sweets like gujiya and thandai. Holi is celebrated with particular exuberance in Mathura and Vrindavan, the birthplace of Lord Krishna.
