Pancasila Day

Commemorates the birth of Pancasila as Indonesia's founding state philosophy

About this Holiday

Pancasila Day is observed every June 1st to commemorate Sukarno's historic speech on June 1, 1945, delivered before the BPUPKI session preparing for Indonesian independence. In that speech, Sukarno formulated the five principles forming Indonesia's state philosophy: Belief in One God, Just and Civilized Humanity, Unity of Indonesia, Democracy Guided by Wisdom, and Social Justice for All Indonesians. Pancasila was officially ratified as the foundation of the Indonesian state on August 18, 1945.
