About this Holiday
Chuseok, celebrated on the 15th day of the 8th lunar month, is Korea's major autumn harvest festival and a time for giving thanks and family reunion. Families return to their hometowns to perform ancestral rites (charye), make songpyeon (half-moon rice cakes), visit ancestral graves, and enjoy traditional games such as ganggangsullae. The Chuseok holiday period sees Korea's largest annual migration as millions travel home.
