Coming of Age Day honors young people who turn 20 years old during the year, welcoming them into adulthood and full citizenship. Municipal governments hold coming-of-age ceremonies (成人式) where new adults dress in formal kimono or suits to mark this milestone. The holiday falls on the second Monday of January each year.
