Constitution Day commemorates the promulgation of Korea's first constitution on July 17, 1948, which established the Republic of Korea as a democratic republic based on popular sovereignty, separation of powers, and fundamental rights. Removed from the official holiday calendar in 2008, it was reinstated as a national public holiday from 2026, reaffirming Korea's commitment to constitutional democracy and the rule of law.
