Deepavali

Festival of Lights, celebrating the victory of light over darkness

About this Holiday

Deepavali, the Festival of Lights, is celebrated by Hindus, Sikhs, and Jains as a symbol of the triumph of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance, and good over evil. In Singapore, the Indian community in Little India transforms the neighborhood with thousands of lights, intricate kolam (rangoli) designs, and vibrant street decorations that draw visitors from across the city. Families celebrate by lighting oil lamps (diyas), sharing sweets, exchanging gifts, and wearing new traditional clothing.
