Eid al-Adha

About this Holiday

Eid al-Adha (Idul Adha) commemorates Prophet Ibrahim's willingness to sacrifice his son Ismail in obedience to God, who then replaced Ismail with a ram. It also coincides with the peak of the Hajj pilgrimage in Mecca, where millions of Muslims gather to fulfill the fifth pillar of Islam. The ritual slaughter of livestock is performed, with meat distributed to the poor, neighbors, and family.
