Greenery Day

Dedicated to appreciating nature, greenery, and the blessings of the natural world

About this Holiday

Greenery Day (Midori no Hi) is dedicated to appreciating nature, greenery, and the blessings of the natural world. Originally observed on April 29 in honor of Emperor Showa's deep love of nature, the holiday was moved to May 4 in 2007 when April 29 became Showa Day. The day falls in the heart of Golden Week and is celebrated with outdoor activities, park events, and appreciation for Japan's lush natural landscapes.
