About this Holiday
Hung Kings' Commemoration Day, observed on the 10th day of the 3rd lunar month, honors the legendary Hung Kings (Vua Hùng) who are revered as the founding fathers of the Vietnamese nation. The Hung Kings established the Van Lang Kingdom, the first Vietnamese state, and are celebrated as the ancestors of all Vietnamese people. The main ceremony is held at the Hung Temple Complex (Đền Hùng) in Phú Thọ Province — a UNESCO World Heritage site — where pilgrims gather from across the country to offer incense, perform rituals, and pay homage to their national ancestors.
