Nyepi is the Balinese Hindu New Year based on the Saka calendar system. The day is observed with four strict prohibitions lasting 24 hours: no fire or electricity, no work, no travel, and no entertainment. On the eve of Nyepi, elaborate ogoh-ogoh parade floats are paraded and burned as a symbolic purification to drive away evil spirits before the new year begins.
